Ashing Process:
Place the loaded crucible or dish containing the cellulose sample into a muffle furnace. The muffle furnace should be preheated to an appropriate temperature, typically between 500 to 600 degrees Celsius. Ensure that the temperature is maintained throughout the ashing process.

Ashing Duration:
Allow the cellulose sample to undergo complete combustion or oxidation in the muffle furnace for a predetermined duration. The ashing time may vary depending on the nature and composition of the cellulose sample. Typically, the ashing process takes several hours.

Cooling and Desiccation:
Once the ashing is complete, remove the crucible or dish from the muffle furnace using tongs and place it on a heat-resistant surface to cool. After cooling, transfer the crucible to a desiccator to prevent moisture absorption. Allow the crucible to cool to room temperature before weighing.

Post-Weighing:
Using the same analytical balance, weigh the crucible containing the ash residue. Ensure that the crucible is clean and free from any loose ash particles. Record the weight of the crucible with the ash residue.

Calculation:
To determine the ash content, subtract the weight of the empty crucible (tare weight) from the weight of the crucible with the ash residue. Divide the obtained weight by the weight of the cellulose sample and multiply by 100 to express the ash content as a percentage.

Ash Content (%) = [(Weight of Crucible + Ash Residue) - (Tare Weight)] / (Weight of Cellulose Sample) × 100
