Homemade Cement Recipe with HPMC

Ingredients:

4 parts Portland cement

4 parts sand

4 parts gravel or crushed stone

1 part HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose)

Water (as needed)

Instructions:

In a large container or mixing tub, combine the Portland cement, sand, and gravel/crushed stone in the ratio of 4:4:4.   This proportion ensures a balanced mix for a strong and durable cement.

Thoroughly mix the dry ingredients together using a shovel or mixing tool until they are well blended and form a uniform mixture.   This will ensure that the cement has consistent strength and durability.

In a separate container, mix the HPMC with water.   The recommended proportion of HPMC to be added is typically 0.2% to 0.3% by weight of the total dry mix.   Calculate the required amount of HPMC based on the weight of the cement mixture.   For example, if you have a total of 1 kilogram of dry mix, you would add 2 to 3 grams of HPMC.

Slowly pour the HPMC mixture into the dry ingredients while continuously mixing.   Gradually add water as needed and continue mixing until the mixture reaches a workable consistency.   Be cautious not to add too much water, as it can weaken the cement’s strength.

Thoroughly mix the entire mixture for a few minutes until all the ingredients are evenly distributed and the desired workable consistency is achieved.   The cement should hold its shape when formed into a ball but still be malleable enough for easy application.

Once the cement is mixed to the desired consistency, it is ready for use.   Apply the cement to the desired surface using a trowel, ensuring even coverage and proper compaction.

Allow the cement to cure and harden according to the manufacturer’s instructions.   This typically involves keeping the cement moist by covering it with a damp cloth or plastic sheeting for a few days.   Adequate curing is essential for the cement to achieve its maximum strength and durability.

Note: The proportion of HPMC may vary depending on specific requirements or manufacturer recommendations.   It’s advisable to consult the product data sheet or reach out to the HPMC manufacturer for precise instructions on the appropriate proportion of HPMC to be added to the cement mixture.

Remember to follow all safety precautions and guidelines while working with cement, including wearing protective clothing, gloves, and goggles, and ensuring proper ventilation in the work area.

Enjoy using your homemade cement with the added benefits of HPMC, which can enhance workability and overall performance in various applications!
